Thirteen-year-old Parker Wheeler of WAC (LSC ga) opened the week's scoring with a 23.08 in the 50 butterfly, good for 1067 power points. That is the highest score among the top performers in any age group this week, and it came from a swimmer who is still two years away from high school.

The window pulled in 252,870 swim rows across 58,541 unique swimmers, and the top end of that pool was heavy on distance freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. Nine swimmers topped 1000 points: seven boys and two girls.

Wheeler leads a loaded 13-14 boys group

Wheeler wasn't alone at the top. Jacob Lee (ROSE) posted a 58.33 in the 100 breaststroke for 1007, Jett Hatchard (SSC) went 49.77 in the 100 back for 1004, and Janiel Espinosa (AZFL) added a 1:53.41 in the 200 fly for 1002.

Butterfly defined the group. Seven of the ten top scores came in the stroke, including four 50 flys between 23.08 and 24.32 from Wheeler, Noah Arthiabah, Jesse Boyle and Layten Norem. The depth is notable too: the tenth-place score in this group is 939, which is higher than the 935 needed to make the 15-18 boys board.

    Distance swimmers set the pace

Several of the biggest scores came from the longest events. Gabriel Brown of FAST (LSC in) went 10:33.14 in the 1000 free at age 11, scoring 1031, the second-highest mark of the week. His teammate Jace Jackson added an 18:00.16 in the 1650 (987), and Robert Gergardt of QSS went 10:48.75 in the 1000 (971). Together they filled three of the top four spots among 11-12 boys.

At the other end of the age range, 17-year-old Luka Mijatovic of PLS (LSC pc) swam 14:38.60 in the 1650 for 1005, narrowly ahead of Aaron Roy's 21.53 in the 50 fly (1002). It is a good illustration of what power points do: a mile and a 50 land within three points of each other. Elsewhere, Harper Rauch (CWAC) led 13-14 girls with a 9:54.39 in the 1000 free, and 15-year-old Declan McDonald (BAD) went 9:13.12 in the same event.

Backstroke takes over the 15-18 girls

Eight of the ten top entries among 15-18 girls came in backstroke. Ella Busquets (OAPB) led the way with a 24.91 in the 50 back for 1012, the best score by a girl this week, with Katrin Otaegi (SRVA) just eight hundredths behind at 24.99 (1004). Both swim in LSC pc.

The rest of the group backed it up across distances: Daniela Linares Danzos went 1:54.34 in the 200 back (984), and Anna Curtis went 53.55 in the 100 (962). On the boys' side, Ryker Levi of SCAR posted a 48.39 in the 100 back for 964.

The 100 breast and the age adjustment

The 15-18 boys' 100 breaststroke is where age adjustment is easiest to see. Five swimmers made the board in the event, with times spread across just 1.15 seconds:

Chernev has the slowest time of the five but the highest score, because he is the youngest. Barlow and Sommer tied at 935, which is why the 15-18 boys list runs to eleven.

    Young swimmers making noise

Among 10-and-unders, Iris Liu of PLS led the girls with a 1:17.12 in the 100 breast (962), and NOVA's Meixuan Jiang and Margaret Wang went 5:53.06 and 5:53.77 in the 500 free, with Wang listed at just 8. Robert Legg (PLS) topped the boys at 985 with a 2:15.32 in the 200 IM, and Zeeon Zang (XCEL), also 8, made the list with a 31.03 in the 50 fly.

In the 11-12 girls group, Victoria Gu (5:13.92 in the 500 free, 919) and Julia Xiong (2:12.95 in the 200 IM, 918) gave NOVA the top two spots, separated by a single point, with Emma Blaho and Ziqi Sun within nine points of the lead.
