LCM Power Points Leaderboard, Edition 12: July 16 – July 22

Starting this week, we're expanding our weekly rankings from three to ten swimmers per age group and gender, giving more of the country's rising talent a spotlight. This edition draws from swims added between July 16–22, and as always, rankings are based on USA Swimming power points rather than raw time — so don't be surprised to see a slower clock time sitting above a faster one.

The headline of this edition belongs to Robert Legg, who broke the 10&U National Age Group record in the 400 free. Elsewhere, Ayden Tan posted the single highest point total of the week in 13-14 Boys, breaststroke had a big week across the older boys' groups, and an 8-year-old cracked the 10&U Girls list — more on all of that below.

Record Watch

Robert Legg delivered the standout swim of the week with his 4:30.32 in the 400 free, breaking the 10&U National Age Group record by nearly six seconds. It's the swim that anchors his No. 1 finish in the 10&U Boys rankings and easily the most significant result on this week's board.

Nya Ferguson tops the group off a 1:12.49 in the 100 fly, edging out Iris Liu's 38.28 breaststroke effort by just nine points. The most eye-catching name on this list, though, is Margaret Wang, who cracks the top 10 at just 8 years old — a full year or more younger than the rest of the field. Breaststroke and fly both show up three times apiece, giving this group a fairly balanced stroke mix.

Robert Legg's 4:30.32 400 free is the standout swim of the group, clearing the field by 130 points. Distance freestyle carries real weight here — three of the top four swims come in the 400 free — while breaststroke shows up four times, more than any other stroke in this bracket.

The 400 IM is the story of this group — four of the top ten swims come in that event alone, led by Livie Vaden at 5:23.53. Grace Wang holds the top spot on the strength of a 2:23.21 200 fly, and it's worth noting that Penelope Chao's 5:02.06 is more than 20 seconds faster on the clock than three other 400 IM swims on this list yet sits behind them in points — a good reminder of how the age adjustment can reshuffle the order.

This is the deepest group of the week — every swimmer here breaks 1,000 points, and nine of the ten are 11-year-olds. The distance events had a strong showing, with three separate 1500 free swims inside the top five, led by Robert Gergardt and Scotty Thieman just two points apart. Nicolas Lahre takes the top spot with a 2:24.54 200 back.

TAC puts two swimmers in the top two spots, with Finola Whelehan's 2:00.33 200 free leading the way. Breaststroke shows up four times across this list, and freestyle sprinters Sara Young and Katherine McCrea are separated by just nine hundredths in the 100 free (57.76 to 57.85) but only one point in the standings — a good example of how tight the percentage gaps get at this age in sprint freestyle.

The deepest and highest-scoring group of the week. Ayden Tan's 2:06.64 200 IM puts up 1133 points — the top mark of the entire board this edition — and Jett Hatchard isn't far behind at 1122 off a 58.04 100 back. Breaststroke dominates the middle of this list, claiming four of the next six spots, with Sahiel Pai, Johnny Kucek, and Yihao Xu all within a quarter-second of one another in the 100.

Mikayla Tan leads with a 2:28.94 200 breast, and Abby Chan and Zayda Miehl tie at 917 points despite competing in completely different events — a 100 fly and a 1500 free, respectively. Backstroke is well represented near the top, with Marley Spray and Sutton Forbis both cracking 1:03 in the 100 back.

Breaststroke rules this group — five of the ten swims come in breast, led by Noah Hardy's 1:02.78 100 breast at the top. Grant Bellin and Everett Losch share a dead-even tie at 960 points, one racing a 200 back and the other a 200 breast. Edmond Reynolds, the only 15-year-old on this list, holds his own against a field otherwise made up of 16-to-18-year-olds.
